Nitrate

Nitrate is produced through the mix of ammonia and nitrite to convert into nitrate. A high nitrate level indicates a build-up of fish waste, organic compounds which result in poor water quality and adding on to the likelihood of fish disease. To much nitrate also provides a nitrogen source that can cause algal blooms. A nitrate level of 40 ppm is what is a good nitrite level.
